Read more →The Canal and River Trust has sparked anger by abandoning lengthy and expensive redesign work it had previously claimed was essential to reopening the Anderton Boat Lift near Northwich. The lift, closed since January 2025, allows boats to pass between the River Weaver and the Trent & Mersey Canal. A clearer understanding of remaining work needed is expected by December 2026.
