The Canal and River Trust has abandoned redesign work it previously claimed was essential to reopening the Anderton Boat Lift, sparking local anger. The lift, connecting the River Weaver and Trent & Mersey Canal, has been closed since January 2025. A clearer picture of remaining work is expected by December 2026.
